Company Founder Passes


    

  William Player Law, Jr.,94, of Lexington, SC, died peacefully on December 22, 2011 at the Carroll Campbell Place.  Born in Darlington, SC on August 16, 1917, he graduated from St John’s High School and then from Clemson College in 1938 where he was a member of the agricultural honorary society (Alpha Zeta) and was captain of the rifle team.

 

  After graduation, he moved to Spartanburg, SC where he met and married Dorothy Foster.  As a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army in WWII, he served as a machine gun platoon leader with the 3rd Division in Italy and Southern France.

 

  At the age of 53, Bill quit a steady paying job and, with his wife Dot, started W.P. Law, Inc., an irrigation supply company in Lexington, SC.  What started as a small husband and wife shop off Corley Mill Road grew to be a company with 7 branches and over 100 employees.

 

  He is survived by his younger brother, James B. Law and sister, Dorothy Law Martin, both of Darlington; three sons, William P., III (Addie) of Burke, VA; Philip E.(Karen), and Thomas F.(Susan) all of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Warren Law, Rincon, GA; Joseph Law, Centralia, WA, Cami Buddenhagen, Gainesville, VA, Jessica, Justin and Seth Law, all of Lexington; MacKenzie and Burgess Bub, both of New York City; seven great-grandchildren; and a large number of nieces, nephews, and other kin.

 

  He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy F. Law; his parents, William P. and Dorothy E. Law; two brothers, David E. and Augustus Law, and a sister, Louise Law Wilson.

 

  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Clemson University Foundation (designated for the W.P. Law, Jr. ’38 Student Enhancement Endowment) 132 Lehotsky Hall, Clemson, SC 29634.

 

  A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, December 26th, at 3 PM at the Chapel of the Presbyterian Home, DaVega Dr, Lexington, SC. The family will receive guests in the chapel one hour before the service.
